Staphylococcus aureus is a long word and one that some do not care to read about, but please do not stop reading.
The U.S. National Library for Medicine states staph (short for Staphylococcus) is a type of bacteria. There are more than 30 types, but Staphylococcus aureus causes most staph infections, including skin infections, pneumonia, food poisoning, toxic shock syndrome and blood poisoning (bacteremia).
