UK – FSA -Selfridges Christmas Puddings recalled due to the presence of mould

FSA

The manufacturer, Melrose and Morgan, is recalling its Christmas Puddings produced for Selfridges, with a ‘best before’ date of 30 April 2016, due to the presence of mould. Although Christmas puddings are a seasonal product and it is likely that they will already have been eaten, some may still be held by consumers, as the ‘best before’ date is still current.

Risk

The presence of mould does not usually cause food poisoning. However, there is indication that it has resulted in the spoilage of the product.

The manufacturer is recalling all affected product and is reviewing its production processes to establish the cause of the contamination.

Advice to consumers

Consumers are advised not to consume any of the above product, and return the affected product to Selfridges.

About product recalls and withdrawals

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.
