There are growing fears shellfish caught off the coast of Victoria could be toxic, just days after the state was hit by a salmonella outbreak from pre-packaged lettuce.
There are no commercial fishing operations in Gippsland Lakes, which is 280 km from Melbourne, however recreational fishers and divers have been warned not to collect or eat shellfish from the area.
There have been no reports of people feeling sick or being hospitalised after eating the shellfish from the area.
