Norovirus was to blame for a food-borne illness outbreak last month that sickened nearly 100 customers and employees at Chipotle Mexican Grill in Simi Valley. Seven of the 18 employees who got sick have tested positive for Norovirus, county health officials said Thursday.

The Ventura County Environmental Health Division began investigating after receiving numerous complaints of food poisoning from people who ate Aug. 18-19 at the Chipotle at 1263 Simi Town Center Way. About 80 customers and 18 employees reported symptoms, health officials said.

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) have identified tomatoes as the source of the Salmonella Newport outbreak that has sickened dozens of people who ate at Chipotle restaurants in Minnesota since late August. Investigators are working with state and federal partners to trace the tomatoes back to the farm of origin.

Since the outbreak was reported last week, additional illnesses have been confirmed by MDH.  A total of 64 cases and 22 locations now have been linked to the outbreak [locations are listed below]. Nine people have been hospitalized; all are recovering. Meal dates for the cases range from August 16 to August 28 and people became ill between August 19 and September 3. The cases range in age from 10 to 69 years and are from 13 metro counties and several greater Minnesota counties.

The investigation into an outbreak of E. coli O26 illnesses that may be related to Chipotle restaurants in Washington and Oregon has grown from 19 reported Washington cases to 25 as of today. The Washington State Department of Health continues working closely with local, state, and federal partners on a disease investigation to learn the extent of the outbreak and possible sources of E. coli O26 bacteria.

The FDA and the CDC have joined the investigation into the Chipotle E. coli outbreak that has sickened at least 22 people who ate at locations in Washington and Oregon. The illnesses have been associated with meals served between October 14 and October 23 at restaurants in four Washington counties and two Oregon counties. Eight people have been hospitalized.

The Chipotle E.coli outbreak now includes 25 cases in Washington and has spread to a fifth county in that state.  Six new cases have been added since the outbreak was first announced on October 31. There are also 12 cases in Oregon.

The Washington State Department of Health  is working with federal an local agencies on an investigation of the outbreak. They believe tainted produce may be behind the outbreak, but have not yet narrowed down the specific source.
