Could E.coli infections be reduced by probiotics?

An article in Nutra Ingredients.com has reported on non-human research that seems to indicate the E.coli infections could be reduced by the use of probiotics. The strains that show potential are Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacteria, the tests are still in vitro but the research is still interesting.
