Leading on from the news of tighter controls on Campylobacter in chicken flocks there was an interesting article in the Daily Mail this week
Basically some shopping was undertaken for samples of raw chicken from several well known supermarkets for raw chicken products. The product and product wrappings were analysed for Campylobacter. They found Campylobacter on both product and wrapper the latter being the more concerning as the product itself should be cooked before consumption. I agree with the article that most shoppers would not think that the outer wrappings of a raw meat product could be contaminated by this or other pathogenic bacteria.
It maybe that the FSA should look at a public awareness campaign on this issue
